A New Chapter for People Over Platforms

A woman wearing headphones stands against a black background with a calm expression, holding a phone that displays a message saying “Your account has been disabled.” Large white text reads “Over 46,000 voices have spoken.” Below, smaller text says “You’re not alone. Thousands are standing up for digital justice. Visit us. Shop the movement. Sign the petition. Join us — because digital rights are human rights.” The bottom includes the links change.org/fixplatforms and peopleoverplatforms.org.

Opening a New Chapter in Our Movement

This week marks a major milestone and new chapter for all of us at People Over Platforms (PoP). Thanks to your unwavering support, our petition has grown from 45,000 to 46,000 signatures in just one week, an incredible show of collective strength and shared purpose. Every new signature helps amplify our mission for fairness, transparency, and accountability in the modern age.

Defending People’s Rights in the Modern Day and Age

At PoP, our work extends far beyond the digital world. We stand for people’s rights in the modern day and age, including the right to fair treatment, the right to information, and the right to justice both online and offline. Our digital rights are simply an extension of our human rights, and as technology continues to shape everyday life, those lines can no longer be separated.

We’re working to build a world where platforms serve people, not the other way around.

You can also support our mission by donating here, even a dollar helps.

All profits go directly back into campaigning, building legal resources, and supporting our website and advocacy projects. As we continue to grow, we’re also setting aside funds to begin supporting businesses affected by unfair platform actions.

This initiative will take time to build, but it’s part of our long-term commitment to real-world justice.

What’s Happening at Meta and Why It Matters

Between October 10–18, 2025, several major developments at Meta Platforms were announced. We’re following them closely because they reflect many of the same issues PoP was founded to address.

1. New Parental Safeguards and Teen Protections

Meta announced new parental controls allowing parents to limit or block AI chat interactions for their children, and introduced a new PG-13-style rating system for teen accounts. (Source: ABC News)

These are positive steps toward online safety. However, they also highlight how deeply artificial intelligence is integrated into social platforms, influencing what young people see, how they communicate, and even what they believe.

2. Meta’s Partnership with Arm Holdings for AI Infrastructure

On October 15, 2025, Meta announced a partnership with Arm Holdings to enhance AI-powered recommendation systems across Facebook and Instagram, backed by a $1.5 billion Texas data center. (Source: Business Standard)

This kind of large-scale infrastructure investment shows how central AI-driven personalization has become to Meta’s business model, relying heavily on behavioral and engagement data.

3. Using AI Chat Data for Personalized Ads and Content

Meta is preparing to use AI chat and voice interactions to further personalize ads and recommendations, beginning December 16 2025. (Source: TechCrunch, The Times of India)

This raises major concerns about consent and transparency. Conversations with AI can reveal personal details far beyond traditional tracking, and users deserve clarity about how that data is used.

4. European Oversight and Chronological Feed Options

In Europe, regulators are requiring Meta to provide a chronological, non-profiled feed option for users, following legal rulings and Digital Services Act pressure. (Source: Reuters)

This represents a growing global shift toward protecting people’s digital autonomy.

Voices from the Community

Every day, more people are coming forward to share their stories of lost access, wrongful deactivations, and endless appeal loops. These are not isolated experiences, they’re part of a growing global pattern that People Over Platforms continues to document and fight against.

“After 15 years, my Facebook account was disabled without recourse for appeal. I run several community and business pages, spending over $100,000 a year on ads. The bots are out of control. The system is designed to fail.” Wayne

“As a serving military member, Facebook was my lifeline to family. A hacker took my account, posted something inappropriate, and I was banned with no way to appeal. I created a new profile just to submit an appeal — and was banned again. Where are my 18 years of memories? Sheridan

“We’re a national nonprofit for disaster relief, and our CEO’s verified Facebook account was shut down without any explanation — right after Meta took her payment. She manages over 30 recovery groups across multiple states, and now all her work is gone. She’s tried everything to reach a real person, but there’s still no answer. Meta makes mistakes. Humans fix mistakes. Customer service should not be obsolete.” Susie

These stories echo what journalists are now uncovering, such as the recent report, where a 17-year-old Oakland County business was devastated by a single AI moderation error.

Stories like these prove that behind every “account” is a person, a livelihood, a community, and a life interrupted. (Source: ClickOnDetroit)

This is why accountability, fairness, and transparency online aren’t just ideals, they’re necessities.

The Bigger Picture

These updates remind us that our rights, as consumers, citizens, and human beings, must evolve alongside technology. Platforms collect vast amounts of behavioral data that shape what we see, how we communicate, and even how we perceive the world around us.

People Over Platforms exists to make this process visible, understandable, and challengeable. We are here to protect people’s rights in every sense, digital, civil, and human.
