Frequently asked questions
People Over Platforms Worldwide (POP Worldwide) is a federally registered nonprofit founded to defend digital rights and hold powerful platforms like Meta accountable.
We started as a grassroots petition and have grown into a movement of tens of thousands of supporters worldwide. Our mission is to restore fairness, transparency, and human accountability to digital spaces.
POP was founded by Brittany Watson in Canada after her personal account was unfairly disabled.
Facing the same AI enforcement failures that affect millions of people, Brittany turned her experience into action by starting a petition that gathered tens of thousands of signatures. From there, the nonprofit was officially incorporated in July 2025.
The movement began with a petition called “Fix Platforms / Hold Meta Accountable for Wrongfully Disabled Accounts.”
The petition quickly gained traction, reaching over 44,000 signatures and generating global media attention.
As it grew, it became clear that supporters needed more than signatures, they needed legal resources, community support, and a voice against platform overreach.
That’s how POP was born.
Yes. As of July 9, 2025, People Over Platforms Worldwide is incorporated as a nonprofit organization in Canada.
This means we operate under federal nonprofit law with accountability and reporting obligations.
We are federally registered as a nonprofit, which gives us standing and transparency obligations.
Full charitable status (which allows for official tax-deductible receipts in all jurisdictions) is a separate designation we are exploring.
In the meantime, Canadian supporters may still receive receipts for nonprofit contributions, and we publish full transparency reports showing how funds are used.
Change.org is a for-profit petition company that keeps donations made “in support” of campaigns.
POP is nonprofit and ensures funds directly support our work and verified organizers.
Other advocacy groups may focus only on policy or lobbying. POP combines legal resources, community organizing, mental health support, and advocacy tools into one ecosystem.
Global scale with local roots: While we are headquartered in Peterborough, Canada, our Legal Resource Hub is worldwide.
Because today, millions of people are being silenced without due process by automated systems.
This isn’t just an inconvenience, it affects livelihoods, communities, activism, small businesses, and mental health.
POP exists so no one has to fight these battles alone.
We welcome partnerships with individuals, businesses, and organizations that share our mission.
Whether it’s volunteering, amplifying stories, or collaborating on advocacy, there are many ways to get involved. We are actively working toward building a community that truly tailors to the people.
We are still new and learning as we go, so we ask for patience, but our vision is massive. From developing a worldwide legal hub of resources and templates to laying the groundwork for a people-centered platform, every step we take is part of a larger goal: creating a global movement where people come first.
People Over Platforms Worldwide is a nonprofit dedicated to protecting people’s rights, including digital rights, and holding corporations accountable for harmful and unfair practices.
We advocate for fairness, transparency, and justice by providing resources, templates, and step-by-step guides that empower individuals to stand up for themselves.
Looking ahead, our vision is to grow beyond digital issues and address broader human rights challenges.
We are:
• Building a global legal resource hub with region-specific guides, consumer protections, and accessible templates.
• Developing a new platform that surpasses today’s social networks by centering people, safety, and accountability.
• Expanding community support spaces that promote healing, advocacy, and unity across borders.
Everything we do today lays the foundation for a larger movement where people’s voices matter more than corporate power.
Transparency: Every dollar is accounted for.
Community: We amplify stories and voices that platforms erase.
Justice: We fight for fairness, due process, and accountability.
