THE ISSUE

Across the world, users are being locked out of their accounts without warning, explanation, or meaningful support. What was once occasional is now becoming systemic.

In recent months, major online platforms have expanded their reliance on artificial intelligence to enforce policies, while reducing access to human moderation and support systems. These automated systems are designed to act quickly, but they also introduce serious risks.

Users are increasingly reporting account restrictions, content removals, and permanent disables triggered by automated decisions, often without clear reasoning or effective resolution pathways.

At the same time, AI-powered support tools are being rolled out globally. While these systems provide general explanations or guide users through appeal processes, they often cannot reverse enforcement actions or restore access. Many users are left navigating systems with no meaningful assistance.

Governments and regulators around the world are beginning to respond, introducing new rules and scrutiny around platform accountability, artificial intelligence and user protection.

This is not an isolated issue. It is a systemic failure driven by automation without accountability, leaving real people, businesses, and communities without access, answers, or support.

My ability to connect with many of my friends on Instagram was Insta-slashed back in October of 2025. I was banned after doing the right thing: warning a good friend in DMs about a scam account that was following him. My ban was instantaneous, and permanent, with there being no customer support to communicate with regarding the issue. In other words, I, like many others, was treated as completely disposable in the name of scaled technological convenience. Ever since, I have not bothered to use Instagram, for fear that this could easily happen again, especially considering how easily people have been banned over even less. Upon future bans, I could once again lose over 5 years of personal data, messages, and connections, while being completely ignored as a fellow human being. Big tech has gone too far, with far too little oversight or regulation of their business. Like with many other aspects of our lives, it is time to end our complacence, and to join the fight for the bettering of society. And this movement is just one of many. To those who have participated, thank you. And may we make a great impact together.

I got home after a long day from working and when I woke up, I found my Facebook was disabled. It stated that I violated their community guidelines towards minor which I immediately appealed because I only use my Facebook to talk to me family and co-workers and browse posts that comes up on my news feed. I've had my Facebook account since 2010. Not even 10 minutes after clicking the appeal button, it immediately rejected my appeal. It didn't ask me for any additional information or further verification on my end. There was no explanation on what was on my account that triggered it either since I don't post or share anything. I even paid to be Meta Verified so that I can get access to a chat support and it was not helpful either. They kept saying that their automated system's decision was final however the automated system is the one that falsely and incorrectly flagged my account. I need a proper investigation and review from a human. Not from the automated system that is completely flawed and unmoderated. All my photos and memories from family and friends are now lost until my Facebook account is re-enabled again. The worst part is that they won't even know what happened to me because Facebook was our main form communication.

My Story: I have been using Facebook since 2007. For almost 20 years, it has been my digital diary. I used it to save all my precious family memories, especially stories about raising my two children and welcoming my niece from the US into our home. Over the years, many people told me that my posts inspired them and gave them positive, practical ideas for parenting. Besides being my family diary, Facebook is very valuable to me because I love to travel. I have visited many different countries, and Facebook is the only way I can stay in touch with the friends I made all over the world. If I lose this account, I lose my only connection to them. Recently, Facebook completely disabled my account out of nowhere. The system accused me of violating child safety policies. This is completely wrong and very hurtful. I am a mother, and I have never posted anything bad. Like many other parents, I think the automated system made a mistake and misunderstood innocent photos of my family. When I clicked to appeal, the system rejected it automatically in just a few minutes. No real human ever checked my photos or listened to my side. Now, Facebook is threatening to delete all my 19 years of memories permanently within 180 days. I am joining this petition because we need real people, not just computer bots, to review these cases. Meta should not be allowed to wipe out a person's life memories and global friendships by mistake without even letting a human look at the problem.

My Instagram account was wrongfully disabled twice under the same enforcement category. Meta reinstated it the first time with a written acknowledgment that their automated system made an error. The second time, despite multiple support agents confirming no active violations on my account, I was told the decision was final. I had to purchase a paid subscription just to access human support, only to be dismissed anyway. This is automation without accountability.
