THE ISSUE

Across the world, users are being locked out of their accounts without warning, explanation, or meaningful support. What was once occasional is now becoming systemic.

In recent months, major online platforms have expanded their reliance on artificial intelligence to enforce policies, while reducing access to human moderation and support systems. These automated systems are designed to act quickly, but they also introduce serious risks.

Users are increasingly reporting account restrictions, content removals, and permanent disables triggered by automated decisions, often without clear reasoning or effective resolution pathways.

At the same time, AI-powered support tools are being rolled out globally. While these systems provide general explanations or guide users through appeal processes, they often cannot reverse enforcement actions or restore access. Many users are left navigating systems with no meaningful assistance.

Governments and regulators around the world are beginning to respond, introducing new rules and scrutiny around platform accountability, artificial intelligence and user protection.

This is not an isolated issue. It is a systemic failure driven by automation without accountability, leaving real people, businesses, and communities without access, answers, or support.

“Access without support isn’t access at all.”

Why This Matters

Real people are affected when systems fail.

Automated decisions are impacting access, income, data, and communication at scale, often without clear explanations or meaningful support. What should be rare is becoming increasingly common.

The Issue. The Impact. The Demands.

This campaign calls for fairer enforcement, clearer decisions, real support, and stronger accountability when automated systems affect people’s access, income, data, and communities.

Global Movement

Uniting voices across borders and platforms.

GLOBAL IMPACT

This issue is affecting users worldwide across industries, professions, and communities.

... And more.

Our Demands

Fairness. Transparency. Accountability.

These are the fundamental standards required to ensure fair treatment, clear decisions, and meaningful access to support.

As automated systems take on a greater role in enforcement, the risks to users increase when transparency and accountability are not in place.

Without these safeguards, people can lose access to their accounts, data, and communities without explanation or effective resolution.

These standards are essential to ensure that systems serve people, not the other way around.

1. Human Review

All enforcement actions should include access to human review.

2. Clear Decisions

Users must receive clear and specific reasons for account actions.

3. Fair Appeals

Users must receive clear and specific reasons for account actions.

4. Real Support

Users must have access to real customer support when issues arise.

5. Data Protection

User data and access should be protected from wrongful loss or restriction.

6. Transparent Policies

Platform rules should be clear, consistent, and easy to understand.

7. Consistent Enforcement

Policies must be applied fairly across all users and situations.

8. Independent Oversight

Systems should be subject to independent oversight and accountability.

I was locked out of my Facebook AND my Instagram, accused of fraud. This is simply not true and is libelous. The link to Meta's explanation goes to a blank page. They have given no details in short so I don't know what community standard I broke. They also have YEARS of my intellectual property that is not in my computer. Pictures, my artworks, my writing. This is a nightmare and utterly unjust. I need to be able to discuss my case with a human being -- as I believe I may have been hacked and mistaken for the hacker by the algorithms. I am a 75 year old artist with NO history of criminality of any kind.

My Facebook was perma banned in December 2024 after 14 years of being on said platform. While dealing with a hacked Instagram (which I've since gotten back), I was thrown into FB jail twice within hours of each other, once for account integrity and another for frand and deception. Both times were my appeals were successful. A month comes and goes with no issue. Mid December comes and I get thrown in FB jail again. Yet again was my appeal successful. Within a day of my appeal's success did I get throw in in jail again, I appealed and was rejected, account integrity being the supposed reason. I created a second profile followed by a third, both of which were struck down too. I weirdly got another suspension another month later for fraud and deception despite being banned and it was of course denied. While I've largely gotten past the grieving stage, I still miss it especially that was one of the way I keep in touch with friends. I was a supporter of the original Change.org petition and if this current one makes a difference, God hoping it does. Those of us who got affected in any way deserve to have our accounts restored and if this movement succeeds in any way, it did its job. We have friends everywhere.

Social media platforms have become essential for people to earn a living, operate businesses, and communicate with their communities. When accounts are wrongly restricted by automated systems, the consequences extend far beyond social media. They can result in lost income, lost opportunities, damaged reputations, and disrupted livelihoods. Platforms should be held accountable for ensuring that enforcement actions are accurate, transparent, and subject to timely human review. People deserve a fair process when mistakes are made.

on June 9th 2026 without warning I was logged out of my Facebook account and told that my account was disabled. I was never sent an email and never given an explanation why I have exhausted every single option of trying to get my account back including paying for Meta Verified which is an actual joke - except for Vicky who actually called me. I have business Pages linked that I will never be able to get back now and clients and so many personal memories and photos that do not work for download your information I was never given an option to appeal and I'm told that if I don't appeal my account will be permanently deleted. please help us get our accounts back!!! this AI is absolutely insane and will not allow any leeway even though I'm contacting from an account that's linked to my actual Facebook via Instagram via meta verified... I filed a pipeda request with the Canada privacy commissioner and wrote a letter to 1 Hacker Way in Menlo Park with a large package of information and proof that I did not violate Community standards. I have exhausted all other options that I'm really hoping that this will be overturned.

As a Combat Sports Presenter in Sydney Australia, social media is essential for getting booked and showcasing my work. Recently, my Instagram and Facebook were wrongfully disabled under allegations of “child abuse and sexual exploitation.” These claims are completely false and extremely damaging to both my reputation and my livelihood. I’m extremely passionate about my career and I originally created my Instagram over 15 years ago as a personal account, which I later merged into a business account to share athlete stories and my work in the industry. This has had a serious impact on my career, as I rely on these platforms for freelance work and industry connections. Losing access has essentially cut me off from the main way I build and maintain professional relationships. It has also affected me personally. Social media is how I stay connected with friends, including those who have passed away, and with estranged family members following the loss of my dad when I was young. The most frustrating part of this is Meta’s appeal process is limited and unclear, having to relying on Ai ID checks and facial recognition, with no real way to properly challenge or get clarity on such serious allegations. There’s also no real way to speak to a human being throughout the process. In a world where so much of life and work exists online, I’ve never felt so isolated.

A couple month ago I had Instagram and was reaching out to some friends and checking out stories like one would normally do. After that, I left out to run some errands and by the time I returned my account said it was flagged and suspended for suspicious activity. The account it flagged was a page dedicated to photography I've done to help me promote my business and it was linked to my other account as well that had about 11 years of memories on it. I tried to appeal the suspension but they said the decision was final and not only banned both Instagram pages but my Facebook too. I requested my data to be sent to me and it's now July and I haven't seen one email telling me if I'll get it back or not. So if there's any way to get it back or be compensated for all of this I hope it happens and soon.

I have been on Facebook & Insta since 2011 or so. Months ago I randomly got banned for child endangerment standards which is absolutely ridiculous. I am a stand up citizen, professional, and mother and I was mortified of these allegations. I appealed and a few minutes later they denied my appeal and have not left me back on Instagram at all. They deleted all of my memories. I couldn’t speak to anyone and I was livid. Fix this meta!

I had my Facebook account disabled literally from reporting videos of child exploitation. Once you report an inappropriate video on FB, thanks to their algorithm you will start to see more and more even if you didn't comment. I've literally reported well over 100 the last year and EVERY time FB says it does NOT go against their community standards. These are full frontal nude images of babies or small children and even some will sexual content or full blown porn of adults. I guess FB got tired of me reporting it because they disabled my account saying I had broken the community standards by sexually exploiting children. How is reporting them exploiting them? Yes 100% serous. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Instagram account suspended due to breach of community standards child exploitation . I did not breach community standards and the accusations are baseless and disgusting. I had not even posted anything on instagram since March 2022 however used Facebook a lot. Both Instagram and Facebook accounts deleted. No real appeals process, no way to contact META. I have had these accounts since 2015 with no problems until AI and no human reviews the decision or even tells you what happened for them to close your account. Disgraceful accusations and no accountability from META.

My account of 18 almost 19 years was suddenly suspended this past Dec. All this stemming from a preposterous, egregious, false, extremely defamatory accusation one could ever imagine. Totally Baseless, to add more insult to injury, I submitted an appeal through Meta’s internal appeal process. However, this appeal mechanism did not allow me to properly inquire into the allegations, challenge the accuracy of the claims, or provide a full and informed response. Despite this, I later received notice from Meta stating that my account would be permanently suspended, and that the decision was final. What is particularly troubling is that once this decision was issued, Meta provided no further avenue for recourse. There is no functional way to contact Meta by phone or email, no neutral review process, and no opportunity to correct or rebut what I believe are false and damaging allegations. The appeal process appears to be largely automated and opaque, offering no transparency or accountability. I hope this turns into a class action lawsuit. thousands if not millions of suspended accounts have been falsely accused and not offered the proper recourse or any due process. I'm also quite surprised this hasn’t gotten the proper media attention it deserves. I have seen and read about users who were able to get back their accounts simply because they got the media to intervene or had contacts high up there reach out to Meta. It is completely, unacceptable that users have to go through all these jump hoops just to get their case be noticed and addressed.

I am signing this as a student from the Philippines who has lost a 5-year-old account that was my lifeline for studies, family, and friends. Years of irreplaceable photos, videos, and personal memories disappeared overnight because of a flawed AI algorithm. The mental and financial toll of trying to get it back has been devastating—I’ve had to deal with targeted scams and even paid for Meta Verified out of desperation, only to receive the exact same poor communication and robotic replies. It is incredibly sad that a massive company like Meta treats long-time users like statistics. We are real people who deserve a real human review process, transparency, and actual support when their automated system fails us.
