Since January 2025, my Instagram account has been repeatedly and wrongfully disabled by Instagram’s automated AI systems — approximately 5 to 6 times over the course of roughly 15 months. Each time my account has been taken down, I have been forced to spend $2,000 to $3,000 out of pocket to recover it through third-party recovery services, as Instagram provides no accessible human support. In total, I have spent well over five figures — more than $10,000 — simply attempting to restore access to an account I legitimately own and operate. Timeline of Recent Incidents: ∙ My account was disabled and recovered multiple times between January 2025 and early 2026. ∙ My account went down again around March 20, 2026, and I recovered it at significant cost. ∙ On April 2, 2026, my account was disabled yet again — just days after my most recent recovery. Nature of the False Allegations: Each time, Instagram’s AI has flagged my account with accusations including money laundering, deceptive practices, and fraud. These allegations are entirely false. I have an unblemished reputation — I hold exclusively 5-star reviews across all public platforms. My business operates transparently and legally. In the most recent ban on April 2nd, I was additionally accused of operating a fake account. This accusation is particularly egregious given that my account is over 10 years old, has a long-standing history of active use, runs paid advertisements through Meta’s own platform, and has consistent, regular posting activity. There is no reasonable basis for characterizing this as a fake or fraudulent account. Business Impact: As a business owner, my Instagram account is not a convenience — it is my livelihood. The repeated wrongful disabling of my account has: ∙ Prevented me from scaling my business ∙ Cut off my ability to generate leads and revenue ∙ Forced me to spend tens of thousands of dollars in recovery costs ∙ Created ongoing financial instability and harm I believe I am being systematically and unfairly targeted by Instagram’s flawed AI moderation system. The repeated nature of these bans — combined with the complete absence of human review or any meaningful appeal process — has left me without recourse and unable to operate my business reliably. When asked to verify ID, I got confused in the prompts and since it was for an account I manage for one of my kids I put their Selfie and ID in, in a good faith effort to match the content to a human. This was dumb, I know that now, because what the system wanted was the account owner’s ID. The prompt was misleading asking me to “confirm this is you.” So I got confused and did the wrong thing. To be clear, my kid doesn’t even have a device of his own to even remotely own or try to own an Instagram account. I created it, I managed it, it was private, I made a few reels of his sports highlights on it. That’s it. At first I thought, whatever, I can redo this page later, it’s newer and don’t have a lot on there yet. But then that disabling impacted ALL my Meta accounts, locking me out of my long standing instagram and Facebook accounts that were linked to me. No support was available, appeals aren’t transparent and in this case non existent, no explanation for initial violation. No recourse to explain. Tried getting meta verified to only be be denied for reviews on that initial issue and now I’m being further disabled on that new account too. This hurts, I feel violated, stolen from, and I’m very frustrated. This is not just a personal setback anymore. This example exposes a critical weakness in AI moderation: the systems cannot distinguish between honest mistakes and bad actors, nor can they provide meaningful recourse when errors occur. And when we lose an account, we don’t just lose a profile — we lose a part of ourselves. It’s as if someone destroyed a digital Horcrux. A piece of my soul was tied to that account. "I just want to share my experience with Facebook. I have been a member of Facebook since 2007 and have never been suspended or had any violation during this period. Just recently my account was hacked by someone who has nothing better to do. Once they gain access, they posted what appeared to be terrorist with guns. I would have never posted an image like that and agree that it's a violation, but not of my doing. My issue is all the hoops that you have to jump through because of the fact that Facebook has no human support. I have gained my page back, but I can't advertise due to restrictions. I am still fighting to get that access back. As of today, I still haven't spoken with anyone and they probably don't know that I was hacked, even though I have explained this in all of my written communications."

"My story is personal because after having a FB account since 2007 with no violations, warnings or suspensions, I was suspended. Last month around June 4th, my account was hacked by someone who had nothing better to do. Once they gained access, they posted a picture of terrorist or rebels holding assault weapons. I can understand FB removing the image and suspending my account, but they need to have a different process in place for human-to-human appeals. "On or about July 22, an Instagram account I managed for a third party was hacked. Without evidence or due process, Meta permanently disabled that account, citing a violation related to Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)—an allegation that is completely unfounded and profoundly distressing. Soon after, my personal Facebook account was also disabled, apparently due to its association with the Instagram profile. I received no explanation, no opportunity to appeal, and no way to separate my account from that third-party violation. Consequences of Meta's Actions Your actions have had serious personal and professional consequences: I have lost sleep and experienced emotional distress due to the false and serious nature of the CSE designation. I am now unable to access Facebook business pages that I manage on behalf of my employer, affecting my ability to perform core job functions. I have been locked out of Meta Business Suite, impeding third-party operations. My Meta/Oculus VR headsets—which are used in educational programming—are now non-functional due to the account lockout, disrupting valuable programming and instruction. There needs to be a better system then flagging people erroneously by AI methods. Meta's support structure is deliberately opaque, leaving regular people without a voice. The consequences are real: lost memories, severed communication, damaged small businesses, and reputational harm. There’s no regulatory path for Canadians to challenge these suspensions or demand fair treatment. This needs to change. Even if I ever get my accounts back, I will advocate for this."
